001 — Overview
Strata Studio had five years of exceptional architectural work and zero brand visibility. Not a bad identity — an invisible one. A generic geometric wordmark, a white grid website, no visual system. For a practice trying to win cultural institution commissions and international residential clients, invisible was nearly as damaging as bad. Founding partner Marte Visser put it precisely: they wanted a brand that was architectural, not one that talked about architecture.

002 — Process
We spent a half-day in the studio reviewing working drawings, material samples, and annotated sketches not the published portfolio. Three consistent principles emerged from the practice's own archive: the relationship between solid and void, the treatment of threshold spaces, and material contrast as spatial narrative. The identity was built directly from those principles. The logomark is a condensed S drawn using the proportional logic of a section cut thick where a wall is solid, thin where it becomes void.

The Identity That Got Out of the Way
Within one month of launch, the studio received two competition shortlist invitations from cultural institutions that had never previously been aware of their work — both citing the website as the discovery point. Inbound project inquiries doubled in the following quarter. Instagram grew by 1,800 followers in six weeks, driven by a repost from a major European architecture account that had noticed the visual shift.
